How I get great deals @ Gymboree

One of my favorite stores to shop at for kids clothing is Gymboree. At a glance it may seem to contradict my frugal and money saving lifestyle but if you look closer you will see that I am actually getting some really great deals.

First of all, I must say that I am absolutely in love with the style, look and quality of the Gymboree clothing line. I have used them as hand-me-downs from one child to the other and the clothing have remained in excellent condition. They always wash well, do not shrink that much and I am able to get top quality clothes for great prices.

Here is how I do it: First of all I always shop at the end of the season for the following year, for example I am buying now the discounted summer line for my children to wear next May (2009). Clothing at the end of the season is typically 50% or more less the original price. Then I will only shop when I get an additional coupon in the mail or online for 20% to 30% off already discounted prices. One of the perks Gymboree has is sending you these great coupons when you have the Gymboree Visa card in addition to that every time you use the Gymboree Visa for a purchase online or in store you will receive an additional 5% off the total. Gymboree Visa points also accumulate with purchases and eventually will get you some $10 gift cards too. I only use this Visa for Gymboree purchases and always pay in full at the end of the month. Gymboree offers additional bonuses during specific dates throughout the year- Introducing Gymbucks. Gymbucks are earned during special shopping periods. For every $50 spent you get $25 Gymbucks to use during later dates where you spend $50 and get $25 off by redeeming the Gymbucks.

Here's the bottom line:

50% off prices at the end or near end of the season (at least 50%, sometimes as high as 75% off)

20% coupon ( I get in the mail or online code, many times I get 30% off coupons too)

5% off using Gymboree Visa
_______

75% off Regular prices (at least) + Bonus earn Gymbucks $25 for every $50 spent, ($25 off $50, $50 off $100 etc)

Important things to know: In the past I have bought and sold Gymbucks on ebay. The amount of the Gymbucks will usually sell for about half its Gymboree value. I have sold a $50 Gymbucks on ebay for $27. There is a large demand for those items on ebay. Gymboree 20% or 30% coupons sell on ebay as well for a fraction of its shopping value. They all have online codes and can be emailed from the seller to you within an hour of your purchase and save you lots of money too.

I typically shop online since the discounted coupon can be used for outlet priced items. The 20% off ( and others) coupons cannot be used when shopping at a Gymboree outlet. However shopping in an outlet with the Gymboree Visa at the end of the season in a tax free state ( such as Delaware, New Jersey and New Hampshire- I live in Maryland) can also yield tremendous savings.

Tuesday's Tip- Grocery Shopping Tips

Here are some tips to save money while shopping for groceries. I personally have tried every one of these tips and will strongly advise you to give them a try!

Before Shopping:

  • Check your pantry and fridge to see what you have. (Especially produce)

  • Prepare a menu for the week around what you already have and whats for sale that week.

  • Shop for items BEFORE you run out of them, otherwise you will pay any price to get the item when you need it.

  • Browse the Supermarket flier for sales and specials.

  • Make a shopping list.

  • Make a coupon list.

  • Avoid shopping when hungry.

  • Shop without children (if you can).

While Shopping:

  • Use your shopping list.

  • Know what is a good price to pay for an item. Sale doesn't always mean a good price.

  • Look for sale items and stock up on the things you will need.

  • STOCKPILE! STOCKPILE! STOCKPILE!

  • Compare prices (generic vs brand name & different sizes of packaging)

  • Use store specific savings cards.

  • Buy in season fruit and vegetables.

  • Check for reduced price merchandise (Bread, dairy and produce).

After Shopping:

  • Check your receipt very carefully.

  • Send away for rebates.

  • Return damaged or defective products.

  • Remember what store has low prices for what items.

Coupon Basics:

  • Get a coupon organizer and organize your coupons.

  • Only use coupons on items you would normally buy.

  • Print coupons at home for items on your shopping list.

  • Know your store's coupon doubling policy.

  • Combine coupons with rebates for extra savings.

  • Use Coupons for sale items in stores that will double or triple the coupon value to yield maximum savings!!!

10 Easy Steps to Single Check Rebates at Rite Aid

10 Easy Steps to Single Check Rebate (SCR) Program at Rite Aid:
  1. Start by browsing the weekly Rite Aid advertisement for items that have single check rebates. This can be done online too. All monthly rebate deals are also found in the Rebate directory available at all Rite Aid stores.
  2. Prepare a shopping list ( I do that for all my stores) of items you want to buy using the single check rebate system. Rite Aid offers a Printable shopping list online to take to the store with you. This list allows you to see detailed information about the product qualifying for the rebate (exact size, quantity allowed, detailed description, valid dates etc) . Take this list with you to the store.
  3. Make your purchases. Carefully chose the item that is listed. Pay attention to the detailed description of the product. Keep in mind that most similar products do not qualify for the rebate rather it must be the exact item displayed in the rebate directory.
  4. Save your receipt. No receipt= No Rebate! Remember no UPC codes needed.
  5. Submit Rebate online. (It can be done by mail however it takes longer to process, costs more money and in the long run you will cost you more.) First time users on Rite Aid's website will need to register first (it takes 2 minutes). Then click on "Enter Your Receipts". Using your receipt, enter in the information into the corresponding boxes. You can enter as many receipts as you want at this time.
  6. A screen will then appear " Waiting for data from store". This means that Rite Aid will take your receipt info and confirm the purchase with the store to make sure you qualify for the rebate. When they have confirmed the purchase with the store you will be notified via email.
  7. Within the week of submitting the receipt online you will receive an email about your single check rebates. Log in to your account and view the rebate status. Make sure you received credit for all the items you planned on. If not contact them to get the the adjustment.
  8. Rite Aid allows one rebate check to be redeemed per month. So if you are planning more purchases possibly throughout the month, don't request the rebate check just yet. Wait until the end of the month until all the submitted rebates have been processed and request one (large) check. You must request your check within approx. 4 weeks after the end of the month if not it expires and you lose the money. My personal tip is I leave the email I receive from Rite Aid (when they verified my purchases from the store) in my email inbox so that I don't forget to check on it periodically and hopefully will never forget to claim the rebate.
  9. After requesting the rebate check you can expect to receive it in 2 weeks or more. The check is personalized and not enclosed in an envelope. Look out for it. Checks can be used at Rite Aid as cash (you can get change for the check) or can deposited in a bank account just like a regular check.

This may seem complicated but its a very easy program to learn and use. It takes me 2 minutes to log in and enter my receipt info after each shopping trip. Try it and you won't regret it! Still have more questions? Read the FAQ about the Single Check Rebate Program.
